The year 2007 has been a year of average trilogy endings and a few good movies for Hollywood. This one has brought down POTC series to a new low. Despite this, the movie is raking in money at phenomenal pace. This movie franchise has been all about one man, Jack Sparrow, the lovable, clever and witty pirate.
Johny Depp plays the protagonist with such flourish that anybody would have thought he was a pirate in his previous life.Geoffery Rush as Barbossa comes a close second to him. But the rest of the cast seems to be lost in the sea. It might be an understatement to say that Depp carries the whole series on his shoulders. But Mr.Gore Verbinsky seems to think otherwise. What we see in Pirates of the Carribbean 3: At World’s End is more of the boring Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Kiera Knightly) and less of Jack sparrow. There are cheers all around when Depp appears and groans can be heard when the other two appears with their romance.
The film seems to be catering more to a good lot of special effects rather than a plot. There is no plot or even a story to tell in this one. Story if any is that of Barbossa,William Turner and company seeking to bring back Jack sparrow from the davy jones locker in order to help them defeat Lord Cutler Beckett’s aim to put an end to the Pirates legacy once and for all.
Seeing the movie was like going through a washing machine and having a really dirty wash. This one is the longest of the series and arduous of them all. Jack Sparrow wisecracking to his other selves presents the best moments of the movie. Special effects is absolutely stunning. Especially the climactic battle was breathtaking. Overall, a movie for a one time view ( for Johny depp).
Ranking: Watchable.
